CO2-neutral Wooden Buildings e.V.
Overview of Initiatives for Wood Building Materials on an International Scale
There are numerous initiatives for wood as a building material internationally (within Europe and world-wide).
Wood is a building material with a long tradition and endless evidence of its durability, environmental compatibility and for its use in the cultural and technical development of mankind. Wood is not only a renewable resource, but also has special capabilities for technical requirements in statics, fire protection and thermal insulation.
Wood has never left any environmentally damaging footprints in all its history. The use of wood in the past as a structural element (building material, furniture, ships, etc.) in the first phase and as CO2-neutral firewood in the second phase has been environmentally friendly for centuries.
The current possibilities of multiple use expand these multiple uses by making other possibilities of utilization between the first use and the latest thermal recovery possible through recycled interim products (for example, materials made of pressed wood chips).
These are all environmentally positive factors of wood as a building material that are both directly and indirectly recorded in the RAL Quality Mark for CO2-sinking Wooden Structures. Many of the “Pro Wood” initiatives reproduced in this section suggest or even promote this building material and this construction method. Even from the political sphere, without ever having taken remuneration from the legislative side. The contributions for this purpose should pave the way to get there.
